Wikileaks

WikiLeaks has published a greatest hits list for would be terrorists looking to attack installations vital to American interests. On Sunday 28th November 2010, Wikileaks began publishing 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public. The documents will give people around the world an unprecedented insight into the US Government's foreign activities.

I think its just a sign of freedom of speech.

The iPad: Like an iPhone, Only Bigger

The iPad features a 9.7-inch (25-centimeter) multi-touch, in-plane switching LCD display; it is half an inch (1.3 centimeters) thick and weighs 1.5 pounds (.6 kilograms). The main processor is a one-gigahertz chip made by Apple, and the device is said to come with 10 hours of battery life when in full use. Along with 802.11n wireless and Bluetooth, the iPad will connect to AT&T's 3G wireless network. But the data plan is a hybrid of what is offered for phones and laptops already. Users will be asked to pay either $14.99 a month for up to 250 megabytes of data, or $29.99 a month for unlimited data.

Hackers Take the Kinect to New Levels

Soon after Microsoft released the Kinect gaming device, hackers found a way to pull raw data out of the system, radically expanding its potential uses. Enthusiasts have used the hardware to draw 3-D doodles in the air with hand movements, to play with virtual onscreen characters, and allow a robot to recognize gestures and map its surroundings. One trouble is that unlike using a mouse, keyboard, or touch screen, there is no widely recognized (or naturally intuitive) vocabulary for gestural computing. Microsoft has developed a small number of gestures to let Kinect users navigate menus and browse media on the Xbox. "The keyboard and the mouse aren't going anywhere, but there is a lot of space for something more, and I think people are ready for that," Fritz says. One solution could be to use light projectors to create virtual objects in real space that we can interact with. Microsoft Research has already taken steps in this direction with Mobile Surface, a projector-based multitouch environment.

Electricity and Light in One Chip

IBM researchers are now making chips for tomorrow: chunks of silicon that also contain pathways for light pulses. The circuits switch information with the conventional, electronic circuits in the same chip. This could transport data inside a computer significantly faster, because light signals can transport larger quantities of data at higher speeds than conventional copper electrical wiring can.

Are Security Scanners Safe?

Scientists still dont know whether radiation scanners are completely safe to use on humans. This is despite months of public debate between the White House, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and independent scientists. Full-body scanners have been installed at many U.S. airports. The machines use either low-energy, millimeter wavelength radiation, which is harmless, or X-rays, which can potentially be hazardous. X-rays can ionize atoms or molecules, which can lead to cancerous changes in cells. In April, four scientists at the University of California, San Francisco, wrote a letter to the White House warning that the government may have underestimated the dosage of ionizing radiation delivered to a person's skin from a backscatter machine by one or two orders of magnitude.

Gesturing at Your TV Isn't Ready for Prime Time

The Microsoft Kinect is a sensor that works with the Xbox 360 game console.  A player controls the $150 device with voice and gestures; there's no need to hold any sort of controller or wear any special gloves or clothing. Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, Craig Mundie, described the Kinect as a preview of what's to come for the future consules. Instead of thinking about controllers, keyboards, and other "application-specific prosthetics," Mundie said, people could focus on the task at hand, making software much more appealing and easy to use.
But while using the Kinect for gaming is a fun and interesting experience, the device also illustrates that natural user interfaces have a long way to go before they could be suited to most everyday applications.
The Kinect uses both software and hardware to pick up a person's position, motions, and voice. To measure position, it emits an infrared beam and measures how long that light takes to bounce back from objects it encounters. Four microphones can receive voice commands, and software filters out background noise and even conversation from other people in the room.
Since all these systems need to be calibrated, setting up the Kinect takes some time. After you connect the sensor to an Xbox 360 and position it near the center line of a television, the Kinect's motors automatically adjust its angle so that it can get a complete picture of the user.

Tracking the Brain's Ability to Bluff

In a study published today, Montague and collaborators found that people take one of three strategies when playing a simple economics game, and that specific parts of the brain seem to be more active in people who choose to bluff. A second paper published last month shows how the strategies chosen by healthy people playing a similar game change depending on the mental status of their opponent. Researchers ultimately hope to create an automated version of this approach and use it to diagnose disease. The strategists' approach required the greatest mentalizing trying to get into the mind of the other player.  But the reality was the opposite; they suggested relatively high prices when the actual value was low, likely stopping that sale. But they surmised that this would increase their credibility in the other rounds of the game; thus, when the private value was high, they could give low suggested prices. "Bluffing is a specific feature of theory of mind," explains Montague. "It touches on the capacity to model other people; included in your model of me is your model of my model of you." He notes that while none of the groups had significant differences in IQ, having an above-average IQ was necessary to be a strategist.

An Operating System to Run It All

Apple and Google will soon have more than just each other to worry about in the race to provide the software for smart phones and tablets. Later this month, Intel will announce that its MeeGo operating system is ready to run devices including touch screen tablets and phones. MeeGo is a Linux-based, open source project created by combining Moblin and Nokias Maemo operating system projects early this year.

Devices running MeeGo are likely to start appearing in early 2011. Netbooks are expected to appear first, then tablets and phones. MeeGo is different from Apple's iOS platform for the iPhone, iPod and iPad or Google's Android operating system, says Intel's head of open source strategy, Ram Peddibhotla, because it is intended to seamlessly link multiple devices.with a flick of your finger, transferring a movie or any other content onto another device."
One demo showed how a movie being streamed to a MeeGo netbook could be transferred to a TV set top box or even a phone; another showed how a netbook or tablet running MeeGo could be used in place of a TV remote to control a MeeGo-powered TV device.
Apple has also shown an interest in having its devices work together, and in making it possible to use an iPhone to control Apple TV or to stream video from an iPad or computer to Apple TV.

Microsoft hopes to bury iPhone, Android

Last month, a few hundred Microsoft Corp employees acted out their fantasy with a mock funeral for Apple’s iPhone at its Redmond, Washington campus. The new software is Microsoft’s last chance to catch up with Apple and Google Inc’s Android smartphones, some analysts say after squandering its strong market position in only a few years. The product is expeced to be released and in stores by the end of November or the middle of October. Microsoft is now fourth in the fast-growing U.S. market for smartphone operating systems with less than 12 percent, behind BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion Ltd, Apple and Google. Investors were not impressed with Microsoft’s last attempt to launch a new phone, the Kin, which was dropped after less than three months on the market. All three of those phone makers already offer Android-based phones, while AT&T is currently the sole carrier for the iPhone, which means none has too much riding on the success of the new software, which could be a problem for Microsoft.

2) He uses Video Montagby playing the song "it's a wonderful world" when there is clips playing of people dead, and how even kids are shooting guns from local gun shops. He goes and interviews a farmer using a jiggly camera and makes him look like he is crazy by asking him about how many guns he has and how he used to make small bombs. He also uses Talkiing Head by interviewing a kid from the school that makes bombs and who was 2nd on a bomb list at his school, because he made a book on how to make bombs and perchases gun powder from stores legally because he is of age to buy a gun in the United States

     Lower Drinking Age
There have been many arguments about changing the legal drinking age in Saskatchewan. Some of the people who have been involved in the voting have said to raise it to twenty-one years of age or lower it to sixteen years of age.
According to the 2007 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey, students in grades 7 to 12 say it is “really easy” for them to access alcohol. Even though Ontario‘s drinking age is 19, a significant portion of youth aged 15 and over are drinking excessively. Children who start using alcohol at 11 to 14 years of age are likely to drink heavily as they get older.
The health board says some U.S. studies show that country’s legal drinking age of 21 leads to fewer crashes among youth. Despite a drinking age of 21, American statistics for 2005 show 16 percent of drivers ages 16 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes had been drinking alcohol. Young men 18 to 20 years of age report driving while impaired more often than any other age group. Minimum drinking age laws are constantly and openly ignored on college campuses. Even the President’s daughter, Jenna Bush, was caught drinking underage in 2001. In March 2007, the American surgeon general reported there were 11 million underage drinkers in that country, of which 7.2 million were considered heavy drinkers, meaning they drank more than five drinks on one occasion.
The legal drinking age in Saskatchewan could be changed to sixteen years of age because a large majority or sixteen year olds already have a source of getting to alcohol and are consuming regularly. Not a lot of things would change if the drinking age was lowered if the sixteen year olds are already getting to alcohol and consuming alcohol.
There have been many ideas and concerns to changing the drinking age. Either raising it up to twenty-one years of age or lowering it to even the age of fifteen. If they lower the age to sixteen and if it doesn’t work out they way they planned, they could always change it. Or they could play it safe and either keep the drinking age how it is or raise it. Whatever they decide on, it will be the best for the province.
